a bit of background

Jim left university in 2005 having studied Internet Technologies and has since had a career spanning systems test engineering, infrastructure architecture, team management, and process and IT strategy design.

Jim has now been at Softcat plc for nearly 10-years, working in customer-facing architecture roles, team development roles, as well as in Internal IT roles. He currently works as a Chief Strategist in the Advisory team.

Jim works with customers’ IT functions to define thier strategies and road-maps, and help them deliver value back to thier businesses - anything from defining future user experience and cloud strategy, through to operational model and IT organisational design.

The role of Chief Strategist was previously title Account Chief Technologist as part of the Office of the CTO (OCTO).

Working directly with the CIO for Softcat, Jim led a number of key technology and process transformations as well as helping to define the 3-5 year strategy for IT in Softcat.

Jim is constantly learning, but much of that education in the last couple of years has been experience- and vocational-based rather than through exams and qualifications. That said, Jim has previously held a number of qualifications:

• CCIE Routing & Switching (CCIE 23,333 - held ‘09 to ‘17, now inactive)

• AWS Solutions Architect Associate (2018)

• VCP Network Virtualisation (2017)
